Entry 1

   As I sit here in my black skin surrounded by the faces of so many white people who think they are superior to me. I ponder about how I don't know who I am or who I was. Laying in this hospital bed I am confused and do not know anything about my past. I can tell that the doctor is trying his best but his best is not good enough due to my new situation after this train accident. I don’t remember what happened exactly but I do remember feeling a sense of death. I notice that he is fond of me, does he love me? But this is my doctor who is here to take care of me right? Ever since I got to the hospital they’ve been poking at me and putting needles in my veins and all I can remember is dying and coming back to life? They are telling me that a man by the name of Reuel is a good doctor and has been working on animals and bring them back to life. Am I his next experiment or does he really care if I live or die? Why me? ”Oh, it is you: I dreamed of you while I slept.” (Page 470) But I am awake now.

Entry 2

   My name is Dianthe Lusk, but people may describe me to be beautiful and soft spoken but I don’t think I see myself that way. Reuel Briggs feels like we are destined for one another and I believe him, but he does not chase after me like I expect a man to do. Is it because of my race? There are so many different thoughts running through my mind, could it be that we share such a psychic connection? This must be fate. Is this fate? Today came as a shock to me, today Reuel asked for my hand in marriage. I sense that we are rushing into things but I know that Reuel care for me a great deal. He claims he wants to help take care of me, as a husband should but is financial situation is not the greatest so his friend Aubrey is kind enough to help us out during hard times but the downside is he will be gone which seems like will be forever but it’s only two years on a expedition all the way to Africa. We are married, and today is the day that will change my life forever. We’re off to start our lives together and Reuel is off to Britain to join this expedition which I pray to be beneficial to us in the long run.
